Throw the vocal stylings of Velvet Underground's Nico with some cali-rock/ indie summer vibes and you have Welsh Singer/Songwriter Cate Le Bon's squad-song "Are you with me now?" She is known to frequent dark, death-related lyrics but she's real Welsh so it's hard to hear what she's actually saying, so no harm no foul I guess. Best served on your stroll to class or your am commute.

Back to school blues |Meets| Procrastination |Meets| The Return!
Squad nation! What's happening you guys? Have you been hella bored without my suggestions of tight jams? Well don't fret, SquadSongs is back in biz.
Now because I was up late last night honing my #business skills to further the BrO'Shea Song-of-the-Day, I don't feel like doing the usual creative write-up on one song so I'm just gonna drop a bunch of tasty tunes on ya but trust me they are super tight.
Though some are new, and some old, here are my "Songs of the Summer"...
Mac Demarco- "I've Been Waiting For Her"
JR JR- "Gone"
Kero Kero Bonito- "Flamingo"
Kero Kero Bonito- "Chicken"
Mac Demarco- "No Other Heart"
Sturgill Simpson- "Life of Sin"
Alpine- "Gasoline"

Mac Demarco |Meets| Michael Jackson
Mac Demarco dropped another hot single off his Aug. 7 mini-album by the same name, "Another One" and it's super tight you guys. Now, this song sounds nothing like Michael Jackson, but the goofy canadian, overall sporting indie phenom channels his inner Thriller in the accompanying video, as he dawns a crazy-scary rubber Michael Jackson mask as he dances and sings in the surf.
Feeling musical? Mac's hosting a contest where you can create your own cover of "Another One" and possibly win 69 cents from his own paypal account. Not sure how he landed on that number, but it sounds risque.
Over and out,

Ariel Pink |Meets| Cherub
Thought I abandoned you Squad-nation? Never. Well actually at this rate I'll stop posting in a couple months, but I'm here now and the jams are still flowing.
Cookies takes the lo-fi groovy sounds of LA's resident weirdo/genius Ariel Pink and adds a bit of Cherub's bass and pop-club approachability for a squad-song that's truly tasty. Now, I'm not the biggest fan of giving Cherub any credit, but hell that's what they sound like.
If I had to literally compare Cookies to a cookie, they'd be the Girl Scout Samoas, refined with elegant ingredients like coconut, yet still covered in sugar and enjoyed by everyone.
Party,

Dearest Squad-nation,
I sincerely apologize for not posting over the past month. I've been so busy on service trips and just flat out volunteering everywhere that I haven't had time to post a BrO'Shea S.O.D. As they say in Mulan, "Let's get down to business..."
Big thanks to Henry CHiLLNiCKY for this heater. Shamir is boomin on the indie scene these days, satisfying the bohemia J-pop craze with his own Vegas rap spin, infused with Michael Jackson pop vibes. Although he sounds 100% like a girl, this guy is a badass and makes some crazy music videos. The following, "On the Regular" is by far my favorite, so czech it out homies.
Best,

Philosophy |Meets| Hood Rap
Life can be tough sometimes you guys. Balancing a life of tom-foolery with real people shit can sometimes make you feel like everything's out of control. To ease our pain, philosopher turned rap artist, E-40, reminds us that we have choices in this life, that in this crazy world, sometimes moving forward is as easy as saying "Yep" or "Nope". In his squadsong "Choices", E-40 lets us know what's good, and what's not. For instance, because E-40 has to eat food to survive, otherwise known as being "stuck to this bread", he chooses to "get money" rather than go broke. Damn right E, damn right

Tallest Man On Earth |Meets| A Chill-Pill
Well it seems like the perpetual rain cloud has finally lifted from this dude's head. Titled "Dark Bird is Home" off his new May 12 release of the same name, this song, though equally preeeeety, is a lot less dark than Tallest Man's previous hits. Don't get me wrong, I really dug the old ones, I just felt I could only play when it was raining or after the Ravens lost or something like that. Perhaps he is the "Dark Bird" and he's stoked cause he's finally "Home". Headyyyyy
Cool, bare-bones acoustic guitar with some tasty licks all building up to a full band catharsis. Squad-up

YMSB |Meets| Man-Bun
I'm not too sure why "Insult and an Elbow" is the title of Yonder Mountain String Band's new song, but I kinda dig it. I'll admit, I was a nervous nelly when Jeff Austin, resident upper-addict and mandolin player, left the band to pursue his own path. Now that I've heard the fresh sound from the revamped YMSB, with a much more stylish, man-bun sporting mando player and a badass violin lady, I've been put at ease. "Insult and an Elbow" is a really really great song you guys. Czech it out.

Johnny Cash |Meets| 60s Cali Surfer Rock
Gotta love when unlikely combinations fuse to make something super dank, like chicken and waffles or peanut butter and ladies. My new squad band "The Growlers" is no exception, bringing the deep soulful country-rock voice to old-school surfer garage music. Contrary to popular belief, their song "One Million Lovers" is not about Wake Hamilton.

Rap Music |Meets| Real Artistry
Kanye West is a munst; there I said it. I mean, in general, I like the kid. He has some super tight hits and his not-giving-a-flying-fug attitude has "hella" (sp.?) swag. However his jabs at Beck, saying he lacked "true artistry" were pretty wild and just out of touch.
Here is some real rap artistry off Kendrick Lamar's "To Pimp A Butterfly". I've always appreciated albums, of any genre, where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Gorillaz' "Plastic Beach", Zappa's "Joe's Garage", and obviously Riff Raff's "Neon Icon", all fit this mold. Lamar's work is badass in its entirety, be sure to listen to it all the way through.
(none of it is up on youtube but just spoderfly it)

Medeski, Martin & Wood |Meets| James Brown
The only cure for the post St. Patty's Day blues is funk. I tried chugging water and eating chic-fil-a, but only this pack of funky bros could muster the strength to stave off the scaries.
Vulfpeck , as previously described, is a funky group of bros who met in their college German lit class. I describe their style as having the funky-savvy and technical abilities of Medeski, Martin & Wood with the accessibility of a James Brown hit.
To stick it to the man, Vulfpeck released a spotify album called "Sleepify" that was a bunch of 30 second songs (enough time to count as a 'listen') with no music at all. They then asked their fans to listen to the album as they slept, so that they could rake in the royalties. The money earned from this stunt was used to give their fans a free tour. Super dank.
Vulfpeck, Squad Songs salutes the hell out of you

GiGGiTY GUEST HENRY CHiLLNiCKY: Subversive ATL indie rap IMeetsI Punk rock DIY spirit
Well SquadNation, your dedicated host BrO'Shea clearly isn't doing much to defend his recent "lazy as fug" confession, as he has commissioned me to bring everyone today's squad song. I must admit that BrO'Shea himself approached me with the idea for this guest spot with a song already in mind, Father's breakout 2014 hit "Look At Wrist" feat. resident ATL weirdo iLoveMakonnen and underground icon Key!
Look At Wrist:
With a deceptively catchy hook, a hypnotic beat, and features from two of the city's brightest rising stars, the song was an instant hit this past summer, propelling Father and his AWFUL Records crew into the spotlight. Like many others, I was first exposed to the 15-man (and women!) collective through the song, and I was instantly infatuated with the sprawling, eclectic catalogue of each of the artists. Spanning a number of different youtube, soundcloud, and bandcamp pages, the crew's many projects, singles, mixtapes, EPs, and albums are sometimes hard to find, much less keep straight, and the diverse sounds range from typical southern rap to jungle and D'n'B to the self-described "rhythm and creep" sounds of GAHM and Slug Christ.
In true DIY fashion, the group handles all elements of their releases themselves, including production, engineering, and mastering duties. The members of the group are from a variety of backgrounds, and each brings a different skill set and perspective, though most of the technical stuff is self-taught and learn-as-you-go.
What's even cooler, in my opinion, is that AWFUL is truly a family. From what I can gather through following (stalking) the members on social media and the limited press they have received, everyone really does spend all of their time together, crashing on each other's couches, partying, recording, one-upping. But always encouraging each other to follow his or her own unique (and trust me, a few are quite… unique) artistic visions. There exists a true familial, collaborative spirit that is something special, and something that I hope they are able to retain as they transition from the dark corners of the internet to the world of pop-rap stardom. Well, maybe pop-rap stardom isn't really in store for any of these guys...
At the head of the table, though, sits Father, the group's de facto leader and the most accomplished, and arguably developed, artist of the bunch. If there is a star in AWFUL, he's it. And while it's worth checking out everyone else, I'd like to highlight a few other Father jams. Think of them as bonus squad songs for today.
Father's pre-breakout breakout hit: Coming a couple of months before "Wrist" and with Makonnen jumping on the remix (filmed one afternoon at a legitimate backyard barbecue when he happened to stop by), "Nokia (Remix)" might be just as catchy.
Nokia (Remix):
Another track with a typically silly Father hook:
OMG, Her Butt:
Father demonstrates his softer, more sensitive side with AWFUL songstress ABRA:
Late Nights:
If you like what you hear, be on the lookout for Father's next project, "Who's Gonna Get F*cked First," set to drop sometime this month.
Also, keep in mind that Father is a working artist and if you enjoy his music, think about supporting: https:// fatheraintshit.bandcamp.com
Until next time,

Tasty Fruits |Meets| Illegal Drugs
Squad nation, what's the haps? So I've been lazy as fug on this blog but whatever its mine get off my ass. Will probably change the name to the "BrO'Shea Song of Whenever I Feel Like It". mehe.
The Dupe Boys and I have been getting real into Ween lately. Big Hits "Ocean Man" and "Your Party" have been flowing steadily through our speakz. A most fitting ballad for the pre-sprang break week, Ween's "Bananas and Blow" tells the tale of a super-chill guy in the Caribbean who gets stuck on vacation and winds up getting into las drogas.
Again, Squad Songs doesn't support the use of las drogas, only tasty jams.
Best,
BrO'Shea

Post-Mardis Gras Blues |Meets| Sweat, Salad, and Java
Dearest Squad Song Die-Hards,
I sincerely apologize for not posting some squad-songs over the past weekish. I drove down to New Orleans for a Katrina service trip and didn't have great internet access. I woke up still exhausted from all the poverty I deleted in that city and needed to do something to make myself feel fresh. After deleting a little workout, a big salad, and 5 cups of Dunkin' Medium Roast, I've got that fresh feeling back. What I should've done was just listen to this squad song by the Eels that way I could've stayed in bed all day.

The Squadsongs staff is taking a big risk by posting our most political entry yet. Due probably to Obama or something, people are hatin' on drones and their invasiveness. Super Bowl Monday Blues |Meets| Bluegrass
Sad day for Seahawks fans as victory slipped away in the closing seconds of the Super Bowl. Pretty weird that this was the first Super Bowl where no team actually won (Tom Brady can't ever win cuz he sucks). In fact, the real winner was Katy Perry with the most badass superbowl halftime show of all time. Seriously, a few of us cried it was so hype.
If you're feelin the blues this morning, maybe a little Punch Brothers can help out. This squad song, Julep, comes off PB's new album "The Phosphorescent Blues" and will get you feelin right.

Mac Demarco's band mate's band that is super spacy and goofy. Best played around a ritualistic fire on the beach with some fellas.
This is the description of the video and it's wildly accurate: "when a surfing vacation with some tight bros goes horribly wrong, a hero is born. An arduous start in the ravaging surf is matched by a free-for-all with some new enemies. who will reign supreme in this man vs man drama? man?"

Happy Monday Bro-Flaccos. If you had the opportunity to spend your Sunday-Funday in the DKE machine, guzzling some girly vino and inhaling Raising Canes chicken, you were lucky enough to hear world famous DJ PENCiL spin this squadsong.

Charm City |Meets| Indie Pop
The Baltimore-based indie duo, Wye Oak effortlessly makes a huge sound out of 2 musicians. It's almost creepy how they do it; it doesn't make any sense, are they cheating? Should the Patriots lose their Super Bowl bid? Should the Ravens replace them? Yes.

Tame Impala |Meets| Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.
I hope all the squadders out there had a super tight weekend. I didn't go to taco bell breakfast once, so I guess that's a victory, kinda not though. Also, I was honored to be offered a spot on the DKE Swim Team relay. Unfortunately for the squad, I got stuck swimming butterfly, which everyone knows is impossible. Well on to the music...
If you're an avid Portlandia watcher like me, you've listened to Washed Out's "Feel it all around" as its intro song. This squad song is by the same group and similarly makes you go "ah yes". "All I Know" fuses bubbly indie pop with spacey synths, a bass line that pushes, and an emotional dude singing in the rain.

Sad morning at the squadsongs offices. If you're friends with someone who went to Camp Virginia as a young boy, or even as an old boy in my case, you may have heard that this incredible institution is "permanently" closing its gates. In memoriam, I will post a series of songs that were once the "Song-of-the-Summer" at one point or another. Some will be squaddy, others will be girly as hell, but that's a boys camp for ya. Additionally, I'll post some classic CV tunes. RIP CV, and Thanks-a-Lot

#TeeBeeTee Walking into a Saloon |Meets| Wearing a Duster
For today's #TeeBeeTee, I'm throwing back to an oldie I first discovered whilst watching Pulp Fiction after Mia orders a 5-dollar shake. "Rumble" by Link Wray makes you want to fling open the doors of an old saloon in slow motion and snap your duster, or maybe hide in the shadows and smoke a ciggy azalea if that's your thing.

Weather Outside |Meets| Total Coincidence
Ohhh the weather outside is weather! Alright squad-songs universe, happy cold frosty wednesday. Coming at you live from the confines of my cozy bedroom as mother nature throws some of the devil's dandruff down upon us. On this cold and frost morning, it is appropriate that the song I send to you all is Bela Fleck's "Cold Frosty Morning", a classic banjo fiddle tune that'll surely make you want to deep fry something fat and complain about Obama and drink mountain dew code red, ya know, bluegrass stuff. Coincidentally, this was the song my bluegrass workshop class learned last night. Enjoy

LCD Soundsystem |Meets| Gorillaz
Now this description doesn't hold true for all of Ariel Pink's stuff, but its for shire on point for this squad song. Combining LCD Soundsystem's lo-fi primal grooves with the goofy/slightly creepy vocal samples and progression of some Gorillaz, "Black Ballerina" makes you want to pelvic thrust violently in a public place; it's that catchy. There's also some dialogue where this nervous dude talks to a stripper so there's that.

If last night you spent a delightful evening in the DKE machine, you might feel like your first day of school is moving a bit in slow motion...wink wink. U2 |Meets| New Order
This jam by indie-rock group Clap Your Hands Say Yeah takes Bono's powerful, pre-bike accident vocals and throws them on top of some 80s/new wave/post-punk for a combination that feels reaaaaal nice and is a much safer alternative to actually taking Ketamine and Ecstasy. Best when played during you're AM ice-coffee squad up, pre Toaster Strudel.

Japanese School Girl |Meets| Hipster Dudes
First off, big shout out to my man Lenny Bones out at gogucci.blogspot.com for throwing this band my way. As with most of his music suggestions, I initially wrote him off completely, ultimately binge listened, and am now pretending I found it first.
Kero Kero Bonito sounds like "Fook U" and "Fook Mi" from Austin Powers teamed up with some talented Brooklyn hipsters. Combining Japanese-Pop, 90s video game sound bits, and some tight indie-rock mixing, KKB puts out a funky-Asian sound that makes you want to explore the sights and sounds of Japan in a Zelda costume.

#TeeBeeTee--That Old-Fashioned Romantic Feeling |Meets| Urban Indie-Pop Chicks
For this #TeeBeeTee, transport yourself back to being 16, when your hormones made you angsty and forced you to listen to inspiring music like M83 or Coldplay's "The Scientist" as you questioned authority and thought deeply about that special someone.
"Until We Get There" by the vocal-duet Lucius gives you that "old-fashioned romantic feeling, where you'd do anything to bone her," and takes you back to those sweet sweet days.

Italian Disco |Meets| Toto's "Africa"
First off, let me apologize for not throwing this jam out there earlier. I was so caught up in the fame and fortune of the blog world that I forgot to stick to my roots, which is exclusively this song. Thanks to Bobby for bringing me back down to Earth.
In the words of Justin Olderman, as written on my wall, "Ryan Paris just gets it." You're damn right Joldy. Paris's top selling hit, "Dolce Vita" combines 80s Italian Disco with the feel-good, sing at the top of your lungs, 80s pop hit vibe, kinda like Toto's Africa. Turn this ish up to 11 at that point in the night when you feel like you just got the star in Mario Kart, and you'll really know what it's like to live in la Dolce Vita.

Drive-By-Truckers |Meets| Modest Mouse
Let's goooo blog universe, Squad Songs die-hards have already given the 'Broshea Song of the Day' 30 page views. Granted, they were all from me as I struggled to log out of my school gmail account and into this gmail account, but whatever it's the small victories. Well here's a tight jam you guys...
Deer Tick blends that raspy, authentic, Southern-skoal-n'-shine rock vibe with the song writing ability and mature progression of a Modest Mouse or Dr. Dog. I've had them on my radar for a bit, but thanks to the big-brother knowledge of Spotify radio, I've started diving into their deep tracks. This song, "Mange" I feel perfectly captures Deer Tick's dual nature, you know, that kinda song that makes you want to sip some hot java and then get after some Miller Lites in those sexy classic cans
